Ribs - The finished product!
A picture conveys 1000 words.
If only it could convey 1000 flavors.
This could bear repeating…

Shamelessly stolen from today’s StrangeCosmos daily mailing:
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.I am the Gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of
quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.
I’ve taken a trip back through time like you wouldn’t believe! Close to a decade’s worth of pictures spin through my head.
Almost losing reminders of those wonderful memories makes me appreciate the time we spent with family through the years. Family, to me, is not strictly confined to blood relatives. I have a German mother and father. There are several others that were parental figures through my youth. They are all family in my eyes.
Having just eaten an Oyster BLT for lunch, I’m taking a moment (as I almost lapse into a food coma) to cruise back a few of those trips to remember the smiles and laughs.
I look forward to building another decade’s worth of memories.
Happy Memorial Day Weekend.
This Memorial Day Weekend I’m taking a few minutes to remember an old friend.
My last memories of Chris involve a Gyro at Georgia’s Gyros in North Little Rock, AR; laughs shared with Amy Predmore, Chris, and Rachel; and hopes that we’d see each other “out in the system,” flying Herks.
Chris died in the pursuit of perfection.
I regret that I’ve only been able to come see you twice since our last lunch together. It was good to see that I’m not the only visitor at your place.
I just took a few moments to watch this critically acclaimed anti-war film. I’d honestly forgotten that it was filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I’ve spent so much time there, that I instantly recognized some of the landmarks from the film (The Frontier Restaurant on Central (Route 66), for instance). Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron both star in incredible roles and take their acting to new heights.
This is not a political discussion, but as much as I thoroughly enjoyed the film, I’m disheartened by the overall message. It’s rough to watch a character’s beliefs and faith torn apart. It’s tougher when I “connect” with that character in several different ways.
I found this movie to be the exact opposite, “the anti-film,” if you will, of Taking Chance. I understand the need to show all sides of an issue. War and conflict is an awfully powerful issue to address in a film, as is death. Why must directors use the opportunity to emphasize those that are torn apart by war and tragedy? Why not acknowledge the loss with honor, understanding, grief, but with an open and hopeful spirit?
After almost losing all of our pictures from our years of living abroad, I decided to post as many as possible to Flickr.
Many of these are days and events that family and friends were never able to enjoy with us.
As an example, this photo of the Frillensee (a small pond at the base of the German Alps) shows one of my favorite spots on Earth. For a few hours in May of 2004, this small (and yet visually stunning) place was “ours:” free of intrusion by other people. Just peace, quiet, nature, and the incredible view.
Ecalevol.Com is NOT DEAD… yet.
That’s right, folks… I’ve brought the website back from extinction. I’ve honestly missed the blogging scene, so I’m back.
